Christian Dior
shows never fail to impress me with their creative and bold makeup. And at the Couture 2011 show, they took things to a whole new level with 37 different beauty looks that feature color-blocking cat eyes, jewel-toned smoky eyes, bejeweled 3d eye makeup and lips that range from deep burgundy to lacquered tomato red. Can we just say loves?

Givenchy Spring 2010 Haute Couture

Wearing blue from head to toe can be tricky to pull off but Karl Lagerfeld and ChanelCreative Director of Makeup Peter Philips proved it otherwise at the Chanel Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2012 show.
Makeup at Chanel Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2012 show

Face
After prepping the skin with Hydra Beauty Serum Hydration Protection Radiance (available April 2012), Philips created a flawless base with Perfection Lumiere Long Wear Flawless Fluid Makeup SPF 10, Eclat Lumiere Highlighting Face Pen and Correcteur Perfection Long Lasting Concealer. He set it with Poudre Universelle Libre Natural Finish Loose Powder and added the lightest flush on the cheeks using Joues Contraste Powder Blush in Rose Ecrin.

Eyes
For the strong, slightly rock n roll eyes, Philips colored in the lids with Le Crayon Yeux Precision Eye Pencil in Bleu Aérien before blending Illusion D’Ombre Long Wear Luminous Eyeshadow in Apparition through the crease towards the temple and adding Destination on the brow bone and inner corners. Herimmed the eyes with Stylo Yeux Waterproof Long Lasting Eyeliner in Marine and Le Crayon Khol Intense Eye Pencil in Marine and finished the look by curling lashes with Recourbe Cils De Chanel Precision Eyelash Curler and coating them with Inimitable Waterproof Mascara in Black.

Lips
To balance out the strong eyes, Philips created a muted pink lip. He started out with Rouge Coco Baume Hydrating Conditioning Lip Balm before Le Crayon Levre Precision Lip Pencil in Natural and painting the lips with Rouge Coco Hydrating Crème Lip Colour in Superstition.

Nails
To go with the blue theme, a new polish, Le Vernis Nail Colour in Sky Line was used.

The products used above will be available in an upcoming exclusive collection, Bleu Illusion, for sale in July 2012.

Inspired by Moctezuma the Aztec emperor along with Avatar’s tribal-eco message, theJean Paul Gaultier Spring 2010 Haute Couture collection is full of colors, huge hats, braids, leaves and even feather. While I can’t picture anyone actually wearing the over-the-top collection, the colorful, tribal makeup is definitely something that I like (and they used my favorite MAC pigments to create this look too!)

When it comes to holiday makeup, nothing says glam better than silver. So take a cue from the gorgeous silver eye looks spotted on the Spring 2012 runways on how you can rock the color this season!
Holiday silver eye makeup

At 3.1 Phillip Lim, models were given a “geometry mixed with light and air” with a metallic silver graphic line drawn along the crease, courtesy to a wet application of NARS Single Eyeshadow in Night Life and the slate gray side of NARS Paris Duo Eyeshadow. Add a touch of NARS Multiple in Copacabana along the cheekbones for a truly ethereal look.

Feeling crafty? Slice some silver sequins into half and place them below and above each lash line, just like the look created by Pat McGrath at Givenchy.

Alternatively, try the “graphic metallic element” Chanel Creative Director Peter Philips created at Fendi by pairing a thick black cat-eye with pieces of silver reflective sheets glued all the way up past the brow bone.

Either way, remember to pair your silver peepers with clean skin and a touch of pink blush and muted lips.

Hair
“This is a chic, dishevelled, boyish look. I was thinking about the style of a young aristocratic boy who parties a little too hard, and wanted to transfer this look to a beautiful young woman to create a slightly androgynous hairstyle. The key to this style is an illusion of short hair, with a textured ‘foppish’ top. I love the idea of imperfection and wanted the hair to look as if the girl had been partying all night and the roots of her hair were a little unwashed and sweaty, in contrast to the perfectly sleek underneath section. This hair look is all about looking cool with an attitude, it’s tough, contemporary and full of character; rather like the Haider Ackermann woman”, says Eugene.

Hair at Haider Ackermann Spring/Summer 2012

Step 1. This look is focused on creating a ‘day old’ hair but with a freshly washed base, so always start with freshly washed and conditioned hair. Use Wella Professionals Enrich Shampoo and Conditioner.

Step 2. Roughly dry the hair, keeping it as flat as possible, if hair is very textured, use Wella Professionals Velvet Amplifier as a base styling product to smooth out the hair surface and act a as primer for the subsequent styling products.

Step 3. To create the illusion of short hair, you first need to take the underneath hair away, to create a flat and shiny base. Clip the top section of hair out of the way, and start to make a very flat chignon, taking the hair section by section and spraying the roots with Wella Professionals Stay Essential Finishing Spray until they are saturated. Brush this through the hair with a small soft bristle brush; hold the section tight as you go to create tension. Repeat this process, ensuring that each section is sprayed wet as you go (once the hair spray dries it will slightly ‘shrink’ which helps to pull the hair even tighter).

Step 4. When you have all the hair contained in one section, create a chignon by squashing the hair and rolling it back on itself and then pinning the hair into place, but ensure that the top ‘tail’ of the chignon remains free as this will form part of the top look. The chignon must be as flat to the head as possible.

Step 5. Release the top section of hair and tease towards the front of the head, clipping into place as you go. Spray Wella Professionals Create Character Texturizing Spray in to the roots and rub it` in with finger tips to loosen the hairstyle and to create a different texture.

Step 6.Fold the front piece of hair back on itself and pin down roughly, spritz liberally with Wella Professionals Ocean Spritz Beach Texture Spray to create a slightly rougher texture to the hair and give it some ‘bite’.

Step 7.Using a hairdryer with a diffuser attachment, apply heat lightly over the entire head to set the style in place.

Step 8.Finally, pick out end sections from the top and use straightening irons to clamp the ends to create separation and give a ‘piecey’ finish.

Inspired by Nicki Minaj, the look at Betsey Johnson Spring 2012 show was all about a glamor with a bright lip, big waves and blinged out nails.

Makeup
Sarah Lucero for Stila Cosmetics created a glamorous face for real women with a dramatic cat eye and hot pink lips. She evened out the skin with Stila Perfect & Correct Foundation, Stila Brighten and Correct Concealer and Stila Sheer Pressed Powder. Then, she prepped the eyelid with Stila Prime Pot and added Sandstone Eyeshadow from Stila In The Light Palette. She lined the upper lashline with Stila Smudge Pot Gel Eyeliner in Black and winged it out for a cat eye look before adding metallic silver liner along the bottom lashline. To finish the look, she contoured the cheeks with Stila Sun Bronzing Powder and gave the lips a “gutsy” look with Stila Long Wear Liquid Lip in Petal topped with Stila Dazzling Sparkle Luxe Lipgloss.

Hair
The sexy side-swept ‘do was the work of
hairstylist Peter Gray for Cutler/Redken.

Step 1. Apply Redken Rootful 06 Root Lifting Spray all over at the root.

Step 2. Divide the hair in a diagonal part from front left to back right.

Step 3. Take hair under left part and sweep it around for a tight ponytail on the lower right nape of the neck.

Step 4. Gather hair on the right side of the part. Pin curl section by section and let set. Spray vigorously with Redken Fashion Work 12 Versatile Working Spray on the top and inside each of the curls to lock into place.

Step 5. Once hair has dried, take the clips out and brush through to create dramatic waves.

Step 6. Spray Cutler Shine Tattoo to add glossy finish.

Nails
Founding Creative Director Nonie Creme of butter LONDON created an uber cool nail look at the Betsey Johnson show.

“We did a reverse half moon manicure, with a “stair step” (meaning the false nail sits slightly higher than the nail plate – creating that extra “pop” for the catwalk) holographic glitter tip, in a pointed almond shape. For the glitter tip, we used Diamond Geezer and a holographic shade that was custom mixed for Betsey, and added a diamond stone to the curved base of each tip. Union Jack Black was used on the actual nail – creating the reverse half-moon that almost had a “bruised” effect. Always wanting one more “wow” factor for Betsey, we added a nail piercing with black baby safety pin. Rock and roll, fun, sex, glamour!”

For the fifth consecutive season, Estée Lauder Creative Makeup Director Tom Pecheux worked with famed manicurist Jin Soon Choi for the beauty look at Derek Lam A/W 2012. And this time, it is about invisible matte skin with subtly defined cheeks, pink-beige tinted lips and a sexy cat eye in a smoky-burgundy shade.

“The French have a saying for this look, ‘Un peu décalé,’ inspired by a woman who has a unique way about her. Unexpected. Intriguing. Different from all the rest. She is youthful and innocent, yet far from immature.” – Tom Pecheux, Estée Lauder Creative Makeup Director.

For a modern approach on the 60s look, makeup artist Pat McGrath gave models hot pink feather lashes (that reminded me of my Make Up For Ever Hot Pink Feather Lashes) with a matching pout at the Viktor & Rolf Spring/Summer 2012 show in Paris. Are we liking the pink overload?
